Debussy and Nature
62Claude Debussy and the natural world
Painting - On the Hudson Artist - Thomas Doughty
The images of tranquility, water, trees, wind, or calm, the images of nature in our minds in the painting "On the Hudson" a surreal melodic piece that almost has a trance like quality. Someone who takes the sounds of nature and applies them to music, a mood, a time in history simpler, slower, less cluttered.
Claude Debussy - Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Debussy and Arabesque #1
the image of a campfire is an interesting take on this piece. I think I can visualize that. In Reverie, you can almost smell the lilies of the valley; images of flowers, dancers, cliffs with water, color, form, life.
Debussy - Arabesque #1
Debussy: La Cathedrale Engloutie
Clair de Lune is perfect here - it epitomizes nature.
DeBussy is my favorite composer! Thank you for this pleasure.
lefseriver: I fell under the impressionistic spell of Debussy's music in childhood. Snippets of his music have wafted throughout my life ever since.
Excellent choice of selections, especially La cathédrale engloutie (Sunken cathedral), which is always visually compelling for me as well because each note seems to materialize as water, stone, etc. before transitioning to the next note.

One of my favorite Debussy pieces to play is the Sunken Cathedral. Debussy wrote it to depict Mont Saint Michel in France. A few years ago I had a wonderful opportunity to visit the cathedral.
